A box office winner with great opportunities for principals & chorus.
One of the most beautiful and imaginative of all the Quartermain scripts, this has been described by the press as one of the best 'Sleeping Beauty' pantomimes ever written. Act 1 is set in the Medieval period, while Act 2 is set in the 18th Century. This means that although many of the settings are used more than once - props and dressings have to be changed and aged. Although there are many magical stage effects the show is not difficult to produce if the stage directions are followed. Caraboss [possibly the best role in the show] is the strongest of all 'Witch' roles, that said, there are no less than seven other good female parts - eight if Valentine is played by a girl - and nine if Aiden is played as a second Principal Boy as has been done in several Professional Productions. This makes this an excellent choice of show for those companies with a largely female membership. Strong comedy actors are also required for the Dame role, Wally & Willy and the two smaller roles. The Witch Boy is very important and should be able to dance or move well.
