Case of the Frightened Lady By Edgar Wallace

Chauffeur William Studd is found strangled in the grounds of his employers' home, the Lebanon mansion - but why should anybody want to kill such an amiable and popular young man? When the men from Scotland Yard appear on the scene led by Chief Inspector Tanner they find fear an all pervasive influence on the household. Young Lord Lebanon seems relieved at the presence of the police in his home but although his appearance is that of the eccentric thoroughbred he is also the weak effeminate son preyed upon by his overbearing mother, Lady Lebanon, who is quite patently hiding something. The American footmen Gilder and Brooks are distinctly sinister and seem to know too much and along with Dr. Amersham they appear to exert too much control over the household.
A web of mystery unfolds, interwoven with secret rooms, passageways, staircases and the beautiful but strange Aisla Crane - the "frightened lady" who seems unable to escape the clutches of the fear that surrounds the house.
The Case of the Frightened Lady is an enthralling, spooky, mystery thriller set in 1935 and has all the hallmarks of the prolific thriller writer, Edgar Wallace - skeins of intrigue, gripping tension and absorbing mystery. It is sure to have the audience on the edge of their seats. |
