The Kings of the Music Hall
The life story of the great Dan Leno told through the eyes of his partner & friend Herbert Campbell. The professional production played for the British music hall society receiving rave reviews.
A musical play by Peter Quartermain based on private letters, interviews and a biography of Dan Leno by Hickory Wood.
This superb pantomime with its very moral and entertaining story requires a first class Dame Comedian who is able to change from the cosy traditional style to the sophisticated glamourous manner of Danny La Rue. Although this version contains a second Dame part this can be played by a strong Character Comedienne. There are very good parts for a light comic (Tommy), for a comedy fairy and for the Witch. The Principal Boy role of Jack is unusual and demands the use of hand puppets, the puppet and circus scenes being an outstanding feature of the show. There is also a very strong mime part for Joey the Clown. The Pantomime is excellent on unusual sequences, particularly the ‘Shush-Shush’ Bird Scene and the Puppet Finale. revised in 1978 this show was first produced with Tommy Trinder (Tommy), Alexander Bridge (Mother Goose), Jeff Rawle (Jack), Monica Rose (Rosie) and Lee Sutton (Mercedes).
