One of the few 'home grown' pantomimes, the story being a mixture of fact and fiction - he was Lord mayor of London and he did marry Alice! A script strong in comedy, particularly the 'robbing the safe' scene and the traditional 'on board the ship' routine, this panto also gives great scope for imaginative staging. In the original production the part of Fitzwarren doubled as King Ombonga and the Captain's Mate doubled as the Wazir - these can however be played separately.
This adaptation was the only Pantomime in Essex to get 5 out of 5 marks from the Evening Echo. |
